Packaging Parcels for goods bought and sold on Ebay
Many people using Parcels Please will be ebay buyers and sellers. Ebay items, particularly the secondhand items and the privately sold items frequently don’t have the manufacturer’s packaging, so we’ve included here some guidelines on packaging advice for items going via a parcel delivery.
- Everything should always be boxed. Parcel networks use automated sorting hubs and conveyor belts. Wrapping things in dustbin bags and sticky tape isn’t sufficient. A box should always be used to protect the item you’re sending.
- Make sure that the item fits inside the box, L shaped boxes are a lot more likely to get stuck on the conveyor belts, and trapped and tangled with other parcels.
- The golden rule to minimise breakages is no rattling. Make sure that the nothing within the item itself can rattle, use padding to fill gaps. And then make sure that the item can’t rattle within the box, use padding to pack and cushion the item between the sides of the box.
- Ensure that you have the customers full name and address, Postcode, and telephone number.
- Also, make sure that you are delivering to an address where there will be someone to accept the delivery. Perhaps ask the customer is they would prefer delivery to a work address?
- Make sure that nothing in your item is classed as a Prohibited or Hazardous item. Remember that glass will not be insured.
